Mid-Month Micropleasures, Musings, and Meanderings: November 2017
I’ve just returned from picking up flowers down the street. The lights are dimmed. A candle — no scratch that, several candles — are lit right now, and from my open living room window I can hear the gentle and melancholy sound of rain (and also tires on wet asphalt, the odd honking of a car horn, sirens, and seagulls ... always seagulls). It is pure bliss.
Upon landing back in Canada after 6 weeks abroad, and moving into yet another apartment, I’m in full-blown nesting mode and this month’s edition of micropleasures, musings, and meanderings reflects that.
I hope you enjoy :)
Most of you loyal readers know that I spent the last 6 weeks hanging out in Italy, and while it was all things wonderful, living out of a suitcase can be tough. I’ve been having major “nesting” cravings, so in anticipation of my big move back to Vancouver, I caved and bought myself this Velvet Rose & Oud Jo Malone candle. And honestly, even though it was slightly out of my budget, I don’t regret handing over a single cent of my hard-earned dollars to the lady in the airport duty-free. Especially since upon arriving in my new digs, it smelled like whoever cleaned the place had simultaneously been chain-smoking an entire pack of cigarettes. Not anymore, though — Thanks, Jo!
I also splurged on Jo Malone Cologne (I was in one of those, feel sorry for myself/treat myself moods). The Red Roses cologne is officially my new signature scent.
After a week of travel, jet lag, and unintentional dehydration, to say I’ve been feeling run-down would be an understatement. And not just on the inside. My skin has been looking less than lackluster lately. So upon getting settled, I slipped into my robe, took 30 minutes to myself with Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Mask and voila! I feel (sorta) like a new woman. Or at least a woman with fresher, softer skin.
If you read the latest #SelfLoveSession with Melody Godfred, founder of Fred + Far, then you know I am fully obsessing over The Self-Love Pinky Ring. At this point, it’s not a matter of IF I’ll choose myself, but a matter of when. Early Christmas prezzy to myself, perhaps?
My favorite Girl’s Night In Club, just launched their new online shop, and I’m dying to get my hands on their HOMEBODY tee because nothing is more on point for this new nesting-crazed version of myself.
In an effort to wash my hair less, I picked up some Jet Lag Invisible Dry Shampoo by IGK, and I think I’m in love — which is saying a lot coming from someone who has naturally oily hair and has tried multiple dry shampoos on the market.
Since I’m a bit of a natural beauty junkie these days, I’m adding basically everything from this list of the 30 Best Natural Beauty Products Right Now by Mind Body Green to my Christmas list.
Since my circadian rhythm and sleep habits are all f**ked up right now on account of jet lag and time travel, daylight savings and stuff, this list of 7 Unconventional Ways to Get More Sleep by Urban Alchemy could not be more timely. If you too are feeling tired, consider these wellness prescriptions.
Anyone else straddling that metaphorical line of trying to be chill while also being a real thinking, breathing, feeling, wholly formed (and beautifully complicated) woman? This essay published on Vogue could not be more on point.
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have caught last week when I announced the new homepage for The Self-Love Sessions — It’s your new one-stop shop for all published #sessions so far, and an amazing place to hang out and read about totally inspiring women making waves in the world and their industries.
Since moving back to Vancouver (like 2 days ago) I’m feeling really motivated to cultivate an empowering community and network of badass women, not just online, but IRL too. Do any of you little fool baes live in or near Van? Let’s hang out!
One last MAJOR thing ... As I get ready to send the REAL littlefoolbook manuscript out to agents and editors, I’ve been thinking about creating an “Early Readers” girl gang. Because just as it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a girl-gang to raise a book baby. Basically, I’d send you advance chapters of my manuscript to read for pleasure and in return, you would let me know your thoughts — what you loved, what you hated, what you wanted to read more of, etc... Sound fun? Sign up below to get on the list.
